Lindsay Baker--Unexpected Beauty

The Quay Brothers are a pair of twin brothers who do some really interesting stop motion animation. I learned about them from someone in another one of my classes, and I thought this assignment would be a good opportunity to share their work, because as you'll see if you watch "Crocodile Street" (parts 1 and 2 are linked below), the imagery is kind of strange and dark, pretty creepy even...very odd and eerie...but I find it beautiful.

You should try to see this in better quality.

It's incredible to me because the film is made of a bunch of little trinkets that the brothers picked up on a trip to Poland I believe (don't mark my words, I might not remember correctly), and without any words and such limited visuals, so much is said. A story is told and emotions are apparent...It's pretty cool.

It also interests me because so much focus is paid to these little bitty parts, and these subtle movements. Everything seems much bigger, and after watching something like this, I start seeing smaller things around me and paying more attention to what I might have overlooked before: the mechanism of a movement, how light interacts with the world around us, etc.
