Unexpected Beauty (Anastacia Xu)

I find unexpected beauty in mostly photographs. While candid photos and portraits have their individual charms, something that I never tire are of nature scapes, particularly plants, and especially flowers. White roses in particular. There is something in their form, the construction of their natural folds that catch the shadows, enhanced especially in black and white photos that I have always found very naturally compelling. I think what makes an interesting photograph, whether it be the form of a flower or the form of the human body is an interesting array of line, space, shadow, and light; that is serene and balanced. And anything can be portrayed elegantly through unique composition of forms - whether it be old, rusted nails compounded on top of each other and scattered all over an old, rotting telephone post, or simply a greyhound with his nose pointing at a fire hydrant.
